Research Case Studies

With a formal research background for his MSc in examining user and provider perspectives of quality indicators, Mike is particularly interested in working with organisations looking at evaluating and improving user and carer involvement, and has worked with a number of agencies in this context in relation to their registration with the Care Commission.

Mike has completed several pieces of research for local authorities, for NHS QIS and the Scottish Executive. In addition to themes relating to user and carer involvement, he has also developed work relating to transitions and interagency work, and more generally in relation to quality issues.

As well as carrying out research himself, and with teams of colleagues, Mike is interested in supporting agencies to develop their own capacity, and will coach and mentor staff to design and undertake internal exercises.

The development of survey tools and techniques are central to Mike's approach and he is regularly required to manage consultation programmes with associated telephone, individual face to face and small group surveys, and the organisation of larger scale workshops and conferences. Mike can recruit teams to assist in such exercises, or work with agencies own staff.

Mike is used to undertaking commissions which require results delivered to a publishable standard, and he has a publication record to match.
