Training Case study

Mike has had considerble experience over many years in a range of training related contexts. From his background as a training manager, and convernor of Scottish Training Advisory Service, in more recent years he has worked with the Open University as an Associate Lecturer, and has contributed to the development of new courses, and researched potential for adapting existing courses for the CPD market. He has also worked with Training for Care as a SVQ Assessor, and has designed and delivered courses on Quality Management and Adult Support and Protection; he designed and delivered courses for those undertaking the Registered Managers Award for the Borders, East and Midlothian Council's SVQ Assessment Centre.

Against this background, Mike is well equipped to work with an organisation to profile their training need, linking this to SSSC requirements and Care Commission expectations, and negotiate  internal and external programmes to meet need. Mike has an extensive network of colleagues experienced in delivering training, and can either deliver material himself or put together a team to address needs. Mike can also coach supervisory and middle-management staff to develop their training skills. Mike has considerable experience in working with service users and carers to contribute to training programmes, as the true experts on need and good practice. Recently he has focussed on developing CPD approaches and programmes for organisations, making best use of existing and under utilised resources, and is enthusiastic to link individual staff aspiration to agency expectations and requirements.
